Student Leadership NORTH (SLNorth) kicked off their 2026-27 program at Odyssey Escape Games on Saturday, August 8th. This year nearly 170 students representing Innovation Academy, Mt. Pisgah School, Providence Christian - Johns Creek; Centennial, Chattahoochee, Northview, and Alpharetta High Schools didn’t miss a beat and escaped all the really challenging games in record time while learning about their group mates for the upcoming year.
The retreat officially kicked off the 15th year of Student Leadership NORTH (formerly called Student Leadership Johns Creek) and the program will continue with monthly in-person program days. The first-year students will work on community projects. The second-year students will work on creating an on-line portfolio including a Linked-In profile and resume. In addition, the students will be shadowing a business professional in a field of study they are interested in pursuing. Our Student Leadership Johns Creek Ambassadors will also be facilitating a candidate debate on September 16th at Chattahoochee High School.
The two-year or one-year Rising Leaders program is managed by an advisory committee under the direction of Leadership Johns Creek, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, in collaboration with Fulton County Schools. Aside from managing the day-to-day functions, the Executive Director, Irene Sanders provides leadership by example to all of the students and the community. She is a Johns Creek resident and mother of two graduates of Johns Creek high schools and also served as a Johns Creek Planning Commissioner for eight years and was President of her HOA; she knows first-hand the importance of leadership skills. In addition, our Program Director former Fulton County Schools Board Member Linda McCain adds an important element to our program. Linda served 12-years with Fulton County Schools and was excited to dive into working with our amazing student leaders. She is also a Johns Creek resident and mother of three graduates of Johns Creek high schools. We are excited to have this dynamic duo focuing on developing our SLNorth students in the coming year.
Fundamental to the program is a rigorous application process that includes those students who have demonstrated solid or emerging leadership qualities. Applications for the 2027-28 class will be available December 1, 2026.
